The opposition party of Moïse Katumbi briefly pondered its strategy after denouncing the results of the December general elections. Ultimately, the policy of empty seats was not adopted. The stated objective of this new group is to block any attempts to manipulate the Constitution.

With around twenty elected members, “the Ensemble” emerges as the primary opposition force in this Assembly resulting from the December 2023 elections. Its deputies will comprise the sole group representing this political tendency. The vast majority of the elected officials align with the Sacred Union of the Nation, the presidential coalition.

“We will shoulder this responsibility,” confides the newly elected group president. Christian Mwando, representing Tanganyika and a former minister, promises that his party will strive to thwart any attempts to revise the Constitution and to provide counterarguments. “We will not hesitate to denounce corruption, and dysfunction, and to amplify the voice of the people. The National Assembly offers us a platform to be better heard,” warns the Tanganyika representative.

This announcement from Ensemble comes as the judiciary has just ordered the temporary release of Salomon Kalonda, a close associate of Moïse Katumbi and a provincial elected official. “A coincidence,” several officials from the opposition party clarify, asserting that they do not view this release as a gesture of appeasement from the authorities in Kinshasa.
