Messages of congratulations following Bassirou Diomaye Faye’s victory in the Senegalese presidential election multiplied on March 25th and 26th, 2024, even before the official results were announced, from neighboring heads of state to Emmanuel Macron and the Council of Europe.

Since March 25th, 2024, while the official results of the Senegalese presidential election are still awaited, reactions have poured in following Macky Sall’s post “congratulating the winner, Mr. Bassirou Diomaye Faye, who trends indicate as the winner.”

Adama Barrow, President of neighboring Gambia, was one of the first to react, closely followed by Umaro Sissoco Embaló of Guinea-Bissau. Another neighbor, Mamadi Doumbouya of Guinea, commented: “Your brilliant election to the highest office of your country is a testament to the maturity and high sense of responsibility of the Senegalese people in placing their trust in the youth. It also illustrates an unreserved African youth, open to the world and capable of shaping its destiny.”

Another military figure, General Brice Clotaire Oligui Nguema, also made a statement: “Senegal and Gabon have always maintained friendly and fraternal ties based on mutual trust and shared values.”
