Portuguese manager Jose Peseiro has officially announced his departure as the manager of the Super Eagles following the expiration of his contract on Thursday.

Peseiro, who guided the Eagles to a commendable second-place finish at the 2023 African Cup of Nations, expressed his satisfaction in coaching the West African nation. In a statement released on Friday, he reflected on his 22 months of dedicated service, describing it as a period filled with emotion and immense enthusiasm.

“We have concluded our contract with the NFF, and it has been a source of pride and honor to coach the Super Eagles. Over the past 22 months, we have poured our dedication, sacrifice, and passion into this role, and we feel a deep sense of fulfillment,” Peseiro stated.

He extended his gratitude to key figures within the Nigerian Football Federation, including Sir Amaju Pinnick, President Ibrahim Gusau, General Secretary Mohammed Sanusi, Secretary Dayo Enebi, and all the staff. Peseiro also expressed appreciation to the players, emphasizing the pleasure he experienced in leading them.

“Guys, we are grateful for the privilege of being part of this family. We will miss you, but our support for you will remain unwavering, regardless of where you are. A heartfelt thank you to all,” the former Porto manager concluded.

Peseiro’s departure marks the end of an era for the Super Eagles, and his tenure will be remembered for the team’s notable achievements and contributions to Nigerian football.
