Russian opposition leader and staunch Kremlin critic Alexei Navalny passed away on Friday in the Northern Polar Circle prison where he was serving a 19-year sentence, as announced by the Russian Federal Prison Authorities in a statement.
Authorities from the Yama region in the Northern Polar Circle stated in a release, “On February 16, 2024, prisoner Navalny A.A. felt unwell after a walk and lost consciousness almost immediately… Ambulance teams confirmed the prisoner’s death, and investigations into the cause of death are underway.”
