The planned visit of Bola Tinubu, the head of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) and the President of Nigeria, to Senegal on February 12th, 2024, has been canceled.
According to a source in the Senegalese presidency, the visit has been postponed without a new date being set. Tinubu was scheduled to meet with President Macky Sall this afternoon, amidst ongoing tension in Senegal following the announcement of the postponement of the presidential election from February 25th to December 15th.
Last week, ECOWAS called on Senegal to “urgently restore the electoral calendar.” Since Friday, three young individuals have died in demonstrations against this postponement.
