Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) Rally Support in KwaZulu-Natal Ahead of Manifesto Launch

As the 2024 elections approach, the Economic Freedom Fighters are intensifying their efforts to make significant progress in KwaZulu-Natal, which has traditionally been a stronghold for other political parties. The party is planning to launch its manifesto in Durban at the Moses Mabhida Stadium, signaling its ambitious attempt to win the province. Thousands of supporters have already gathered in anticipation of EFF leader Julius Malema’s speech, highlighting the party’s growing influence in the region.

Despite facing stiff competition from established parties like the African National Congress (ANC) and the Inkatha Freedom Party (IFP), the EFF is adamant about challenging their dominance. Party leaders have made it clear that they refuse to play second fiddle in a province where they have historically garnered less support. However, attendance at the stadium suggests a slower-than-expected turnout, with only a portion of the stands filled with red-clad supporters.

Veronica Mente, the EFF’s chairperson, rebuffed suggestions that the party is starting from a disadvantaged position, citing the ANC’s declining majority in recent elections. Former ANC member Carl Niehaus echoed this sentiment, expressing confidence in the EFF’s ability to make an impact in KwaZulu-Natal despite opposition efforts to thwart their presence.

As the event kicks off, Malema is expected to address key issues such as service delivery, radical economic transformation, job creation, and the fight against corruption. The manifesto launch represents a crucial opportunity for the EFF to articulate its vision for the province and rally support ahead of the upcoming polls. Despite the challenges posed by established political forces, the EFF remains determined to assert its influence and agenda in KwaZulu-Natal.
