DA Councillors Accused of Personal Information Leak Face Criminal Charges

Johannesburg Transport MMC Kenny Kunene has taken decisive action against three Democratic Alliance (DA) councilors, lodging a criminal case against them for allegedly disclosing their details online.

The case, filed at the Sandton Police Station on Thursday, accuses the councilors of violating the Protection of Personal Information (POPI) Act by allegedly leaking Kunene’s email address and phone number on social media platforms.

According to Kunene, this breach has left him vulnerable to potential identity theft and has jeopardized his safety. Expressing dismay at the councilors’ actions, Kunene emphasized the severity of the offense and called for them to face legal repercussions.

In his statement, Kunene condemned the behavior of the accused councilors, highlighting their failure to prioritize the welfare of Johannesburg residents and ensure effective service delivery.
