In a tragic incident on Monday, two individuals lost their lives instantly, while four others sustained varying degrees of injuries in a car crash on the Lagos-Badagry Expressway.

Mr. Williams Manga, Unit Commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps in Badagry, informed the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) that the accident occurred around 5:46 a.m. at the Ibereko section of the expressway.

“Our personnel received an alert about the accident at around 6:12 a.m., and we arrived at the scene precisely at 6:20 a.m. Stated Mr. Williams.

“The vehicle somersaulted multiple times on the old Badagry expressway, crossing to the other side, resulting in two fatalities and leaving four others with varying degrees of injuries. “One of them was not affected by the accident at all,” he stated.

Manga indicated that excessive speeding likely caused the accident. The four injured individuals were transported to the General Hospital in Badagry for treatment, while the bodies of the deceased were deposited at the hospital’s mortuary.

The unit commander emphasized the importance of sensitization programs for motorists, urging them to reduce speed on the Agbara-Badagry expressway.

“Avoid excessive speeding, adhere to speed limits, and conduct routine vehicle checks for prompt detection and replacement of faulty motor parts before leaving your house. This is an essential way of minimizing accidents on our roads,” he advised.

Dr. Olatunde Bakare, the Medical Director of General Hospital, Badagry, disclosed that the victims were brought in around 7:30 a.m.

“The injured individuals are currently receiving treatment at the emergency unit of the hospital, while the two deceased bodies are in the mortuary,” he stated.

Bakare urged motorists traveling on the Lagos-Badagry expressway to reduce their speed, emphasizing that accident victims are brought to the hospital daily.
