In the latest developments surrounding the attempt on the life of House of Prayer Ministries senior pastor, Aloysius Bugingo, new revelations have emerged, shedding light on the shocking identity of his murdered bodyguard.

The assailants, riding a motorcycle on Tuesday night, targeted Bugingo’s car and fatally shot his bodyguard, Richard Muhumuza.

The deceased was a member of the Uganda People’s Defence Force (UPDF), attached to the Special Forces Command (SFC).

SFC spokesperson Maj Jimmy Omara confirmed that Muhumuza held the rank of corporal within the elite force. “It is true; he is ours. As SFC, we have launched an investigation into the matter to find out what exactly transpired,” Maj Omara stated.

He further mentioned that the deceased’s body is currently at the Mulago City Mortuary awaiting postmortem examination. The UPDF will handle burial preparations. “At this point, the planning for a sendoff is ongoing. Once the postmortem is done, burial arrangements shall kick-off. His loss saddens us,” Maj Omara expressed.

Investigations into the incident have already commenced, as confirmed by Kampala Metropolitan deputy police spokesperson Luke Owoyesigyire. The shooting occurred around 9 p.m. at the Bawalakata junction along the National Housing road in Namungoona Zone 2, Lubaga division.

Assailants targeted Bugingo’s vehicle, firing shots at the co-driver’s seat, resulting in the immediate death of Bugingo’s guard. Bugingo sustained injuries but managed to drive the vehicle to Mulago Hospital, where his bodyguard’s demise was confirmed.

Owoyesigyire stated, “In our active pursuit of justice, we thoroughly review CCTV footage to identify the assailants. Updates will be provided as additional information becomes available.”

Senior Presidential Advisor Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba has urged law enforcement agencies to expedite investigations into the incident. He emphasized the need for answers regarding the identity of the criminals, questioning whether they are affiliated with ADF or some other shadowy group.
