During Italy’s one-year presidency of the Group of Seven, Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni emphasized that Africa and the potential risks associated with artificial intelligence (AI) will constitute focal points of discussion. This underscores the nation’s commitment to addressing pertinent issues within the global community.

Commencing in January, Italy assumed the rotating presidency of the G7, a consortium encompassing the United States, Canada, Japan, Germany, France, the United Kingdom, and Italy.

Scheduled to convene various ministerial meetings throughout the year, the G7, under Italy’s presidency, will culminate in a leaders’ summit in June. Prime Minister Meloni expressed a desire to conduct a dedicated session on artificial intelligence (AI) before June, underscoring the significance of addressing this critical topic within the global discourse.

In discussions with reporters, Prime Minister Meloni highlighted the pivotal role of supporting African development as a central theme of her G7 presidency. Emphasizing the importance of bolstering local economies and living standards, she underscored the aim to discourage prospective migrants from seeking refuge in Europe.
