In a harrowing incident that unfolded on Tuesday evening, a local supermarket in Karu Local Government Area of Nasarawa State fell prey to a violent attack by gunmen, resulting in the tragic loss of four lives.
Reports indicate that the assailants, suspected to be robbers, targeted the Wisfom supermarket around 8:45 pm, unleashing gunfire upon unsuspecting customers within the premises. The victims, three men, and a lady, succumbed to the attack, leaving the community in shock and grief.
Residents in the area express growing concern as incidents of violence, including the recent abduction of Akwanga Chairman, Isa Andaha, and three others on December 25, 2023, as well as the abduction of a lecturer in Kokona, along with some students at the Federal University of Lafia and Nasarawa State University Keffi, have unsettled the peace in the state. Adamu Jacob, a resident at the scene of the incident, emphasized the urgent need for the state government to enhance security measures, safeguarding the lives and property of Nasarawa State residents.
Confirming the distressing raid, the Public Relations Officer of the Nasarawa State Police Command, DSP Ranham Nansel, reported that the hoodlums launched their attack on Wisdom Supermarket at Adeyi in Karu Local Government Area around 8:45 p.m. The perpetrators opened fire on customers, leading to the tragic demise of four individuals. Nansel conveyed that the victims were promptly transported to the hospital, where a medical professional confirmed their deaths. The bodies have been deposited at the Maraba Medical Center.
This incident adds to a concerning trend of violence in the region, prompting calls for heightened security measures to ensure the safety and well-being of the populace in Nasarawa State.
