The UN Multidimensional Integrated Stabilization Mission in Mali (MINUSMA) has formally handed over one of its last camps in the northern part of the country to national authorities, as reported by the state television channel, ORTM. This handover occurred before the final withdrawal of the mission, marking a significant step in the process.

Gao and Tombouctou were the last sites pending handover, and after January 1st, the UN planned the “liquidation” of the mission, which involved transferring the remaining equipment to the authorities and concluding existing contracts. However, the deteriorating security situation expedited the MINUSMA’s permanent departure from Tombouctou.
