Trial Date Set for Lagos Couple in N2.7bn Fraud Case

Justice Mojisola Dada of the Special Offences Court in Ikeja, Lagos, has scheduled January 10, 2024, as the commencement date for the trial of Oriyomi and Ruth Idowu.

The couple faces charges including obtaining money by pretense, money laundering, stealing, retention of stolen property, and forgery, amounting to N2.7 billion.

The charges also involve companies owned by Ruth Idowu. The defendants entered a ‘not guilty’ plea, leading to an adjournment for the hearing of their bail applications.

The bail application for Oriyomi was granted, while the hearing for Ruth was postponed to December 20, 2023. The trial itself is set to begin on January 10 and continue on February 2, 2024.
