Abdel Fattah al-Sisi has secured a third term as announced by the Egyptian electoral authority on Monday, December 18. The election results revealed a resounding victory for President al-Sisi, with an overwhelming 89.6% of the votes. This triumph did not come as a surprise, considering his incumbency.
Hazem Badawy, the head of the electoral authority, disclosed that the voter turnout reached an “unprecedented” rate of 66.8%, reflecting the participation of 39 million out of the 67 million eligible Egyptian voters. Abdel Fattah al-Sisi, the former military chief who has led Egypt for a decade, garnered significant support.
As per the Egyptian Constitution, this third term is slated to be his final one. The election outcome underscores the continuation of al-Sisi’s leadership, emphasizing both the political landscape and public sentiment in Egypt.
