In a recent development, the Anambra State Police Command has reported the successful rescue of four children from the same family who were kidnapped by suspected herdsmen. The incident occurred in Achalla Village, Enugwu Agidi, Njikoka Local Government Area of Anambra State.
According to a press statement issued by DSP Tochukwu Ikenga, the spokesperson for the Anambra State Police Command, the police received information on December 15, 2023, via the police hotline about the abduction. The mother of the children, who made the call, revealed that the family was watching television around 10 pm when the lights suddenly went out.
Upon investigating, the father and mother observed three gunmen suspected to be herdsmen and immediately fled for their safety. When they returned to the house, they discovered that their four children, who were asleep, had been abducted by the gunmen.
Upon receiving the report, the Commissioner of Police, CP Aderemi Adeoye, promptly ordered the mobilization of police personnel and vigilantes to pursue the kidnappers and rescue the abducted children. The efforts paid off, as the children—aged 13, 14, 21, and 21 years—were found close to Urum, 25 kilometers away from their home in Achalla village, Enugwu-Agidi, on December 16.
