Lagos State House of Assembly to Present 2024 Budget as New Year Gift

The Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Mr. Mudashiru Obasa, announced on Saturday that the House is set to pass the 2024 Appropriation Bill into law, intending it as a New Year present for the people of Lagos. During an unscheduled visit by Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu to the venue of the budget retreat in Abuja, Obasa expressed gratitude to the governor for his support and leadership.

Obasa commended Governor Sanwo-Olu for his collaborative approach and contrasted it with the actions of governors in other states who have taken drastic measures, such as sealing off assembly complexes. The Speaker assured the governor that the Assembly would work diligently on the 2024 budget and return the approved budget promptly, presenting it as a New Year gift to the governor and the people of Lagos.

In response, Governor Sanwo-Olu praised the Lagos State House of Assembly, describing them as the best among their counterparts in other states. He emphasized the bond between himself and Speaker Obasa and acknowledged the exemplary legislative standards set by the lawmakers. The governor expressed confidence in the Assembly’s ability to handle their significant responsibilities and assured them of his full support.

Governor Sanwo-Olu presented the 2024 budget estimate of N2.2 trillion, titled ‘Budget of Renewal,’ to the House last Wednesday. The budget allocates 55% to capital expenditure and 45% to recurrent expenditure. The Lagos lawmakers are currently participating in a three-day Budget Retreat in Abuja, focusing on the sustainability of ongoing reforms in the state.
