State of Emergency Declared in Seychelles Following Explosions and Flooding

President Wavel Ramkalawan of Seychelles has declared a state of emergency for December 7, 2023, urging the residents of this Indian Ocean nation to stay indoors.

This declaration comes in the aftermath of an explosion at the CCCL explosive warehouse, causing extensive damage to the Providence industrial zone and surrounding areas, coupled with significant destruction from flooding due to heavy rains, as announced by the presidency in a statement on Thursday.

“In the wake of an explosion at the CCCL explosive depot, resulting in extensive damage to the Providence industrial zone and surrounding areas, and substantial destruction caused by flooding due to heavy rains, the President has declared a state of emergency for today, December 7,” stated the official release.
