The late Friday night murder of former television sports presenter, Jeffrey Zikhali, has prompted the KwaZulu-Natal Community Safety Department to issue a plea for help in locating the perpetrators.

Zikhali, a renowned figure in sports journalism and former spokesperson for the provincial Department of Agriculture and Rural Development, was fatally shot in the Empangeni area, with the assailants making a swift getaway in his vehicle.

The Community Safety Department has strongly condemned the murder, expressing deep concern over the increasing number of such incidents in the province. Kwanele Ncalane, the department’s spokesperson, emphasized their commitment to supporting law enforcement efforts.

“While we are deeply troubled by the rising crime rates, we remain optimistic about the commitment and efforts of the police to address these issues in the province,” stated Ncalane. He further added, “Our collaboration with law enforcement will focus on addressing identified hotspot areas to ensure the safety of our communities.”

The murder of Jeffrey Zikhali serves as a stark reminder of the urgent need to address crime in the province, and the community is urged to come forward with any information that could assist in solving this heinous crime.
