Police Commissioner Launches Investigation into Alleged Misconduct in Enugu

The Commissioner of Police in Enugu State, Mr. Kanayo Uzuegbu, has taken swift action by ordering a thorough investigation into reported unprofessional conduct by police operatives in the Nsukka area of the state.

Uzuegbu, expressing his commitment to upholding the highest standards of professionalism within the police force, issued a statement on Sunday disclosing his directive. The Commissioner assigned the Deputy Commissioner in charge of the State Criminal Investigation Department (CID) in Enugu to lead the investigation and ensure accountability.

The decision to launch the inquiry comes in response to social media reports that surfaced recently, alleging misconduct by certain police officers in Nsukka town. In his statement, Uzuegbu urged victims of the alleged acts to come forward and provide information that could aid the investigation.

“I call on residents to remain calm,” the Commissioner pleaded, emphasizing his dedication to maintaining ethical standards within the police force.

Reiterating his firm stance against any form of unethical behavior by police operatives, Uzuegbu assured citizens of maximum protection of their rights in accordance with existing laws. He called on the public to support ongoing police reform efforts and encouraged prompt reporting of any instances of police misconduct for necessary disciplinary actions.

Residents were urged to report acts of police misconduct in the state through the dedicated telephone number 08099854883 or by sending emails to [email protected]. This move emphasizes the Commissioner’s commitment to transparency and accountability within the police force.
