New Charges Surface for Xolani Khumalo in 'Sizok'thola' Murder Case

In the latest twist to the ongoing legal saga involving former ‘Sizok’thola’ presenter Xolani Khumalo, the State has introduced two additional charges against him. Khumalo, already facing accusations of murdering Robert Varrie during the filming of an unaired episode of the show, is now confronted with charges of robbery with aggravating circumstances and malicious damage to property.

Appearing at the Palm Ridge Magistrate’s Court on 21 November 2023, Khumalo’s brief appearance unfolded against a backdrop of heightened tension. The new charges stem from an alleged incident in July, where Khumalo and his TV crew reportedly beat Varrie to death at his Katlehong home.

During the courtroom proceedings, the Varrie family, seated directly behind Khumalo, sported t-shirts emblazoned with the words, ‘No one is above the law.’ The State prosecutor, Pheelo Vilakazi, informed the court that the National Director of Public Prosecutions, Shamila Batohi, had decided to move Khumalo’s case to a regional court.

The courtroom drama has taken another turn, leaving observers eagerly awaiting the developments in this high-profile case. The matter is now set for further investigation with a postponed date of 22 February, keeping the legal proceedings in the public eye.
