Kenya Railways reported on Monday the successful reinstatement of cargo rail operations to the bustling port of Mombasa. This development comes in the aftermath of a weekend marred by inclement weather, resulting in the temporary cessation of services due to damage inflicted on a segment of the railway track.

The El NiƱo phenomenon, accompanied by intense rainfall and subsequent flash floods, has inundated numerous towns across East Africa, displacing hundreds of thousands and rendering them homeless. In Kenya, the flood-related fatalities reached 52 as of the latest update on Friday, with the grim anticipation of a further rise in the toll.

The state-owned rail operator has officially announced the resumption of both cargo loading and offloading activities. Additionally, regular passenger services are reported to be operating without disruptions, as conveyed in a statement posted on the social media platform X.

Kenya Railways has affirmed its commitment to mitigating delays, emphasizing a concerted, continuous effort as it works diligently around the clock to address any potential disruptions.
