MTN System Error Triggers Temporary Debt Cancellation, Subscribers Express Relief

The subscribers who had previously incurred debts for airtime or data loans from MTN found their debts temporarily cancelled due to a system error on MTN’s part, according to information obtained by LEADERSHIP. While subscribers initially celebrated what they thought was a deliberate cancellation of debts by the telecom giant, it appears the jubilation may be short-lived.

Social media platforms witnessed subscribers expressing their joy and gratitude towards MTN, with one user, Ada, posting on her WhatsApp status, “Debt has been paid. MTN debtors check your account, MTN don clear una gbese.” However, an official statement from MTN clarified the situation, indicating that subscribers are not entirely off the hook.

Contrary to the initial impression of a deliberate debt cancellation, an MTN official disclosed that users would still be held responsible for paying the supposedly cleared bills. The system glitch that caused the debts to vanish is expected to be rectified by MTN, and once the error is addressed, subscribers will be required to settle their outstanding balances.
