NSCDC Arrests 11 Suspected Vandals and Phone Snatchers in Kano

The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) in Kano State has arrested 11 suspects for vandalism and phone theft.

According to a statement from the command’s spokesperson, DSC Ibrahim Idris-Abdullahi, the Anti-Vandalism Unit of the command, operating in Gezawa and Garun Malam Divisions, apprehended the suspects for their alleged involvement in various criminal activities, including vandalism, theft, phone snatching, and other offenses.

Five of the suspects, identified as Jibril Shamsu, 21, Sa’idu Musa, 18, Saifullahi Musa, 18, Tasiu Salisu, 16, and Abdurrahman Dahiru, were apprehended along Kofar Mazugal Abattoir road. They were accused of vandalizing armored cables worth thousands of Naira and snatching phones in broad daylight.

The remaining six suspects were arrested for their involvement in the vandalism of electricity infrastructure and streetlights. They were also accused of stealing 18 solar power panels that belonged to the Kano State School of Management Studies.

Idris-Abdullahi stated that the suspects would face prosecution after a thorough investigation.

In a separate development, the command confiscated 13 bags of a harmful herbal mixture containing a psychoactive substance commonly known as “Akuskura.” The sale and usage of this substance were recently banned by the state government to protect public health and safety. The command has initiated an investigation to identify the owner of the products and subject them to legal consequences.
