The government of Kogi State in Nigeria reported an attempted assassination on Governor Yahaya Bello while he was en route to an official engagement from the state capital, Lokoja.
According to a statement by the state commissioner, Kingsley Fanwo, the attack occurred around 4 PM on Sunday, October 22.
Assailants, dressed in military attire, intercepted Governor Bello’s convoy, intermittently firing at his vehicle and other vehicles in the convoy. Security forces swiftly responded to thwart the assault by the unknown gunmen, who targeted the governor in three different locations during the assassination attempt.
