Tunisia experienced a widespread power outage that affected the entire country, according to Monir El Ghabeiri, the Director of Cooperation and Communication at the Tunisian Company of Electricity and Gas. El Ghabeiri took to his Facebook account to confirm the blackout and stated that the causes behind it remain unknown at this time.

Contrary to rumors circulating about an explosion at the Radès power station, El Ghabeiri clarified that technical teams are actively working to restore electricity services.

The Tunisian Ministry of Interior issued a statement reassuring citizens that the security situation is stable. Security forces are diligently maintaining public order, safeguarding citizens, and protecting both public and private property.

The Ministry’s statement reads, “Following the power outage in several regions of the country on the morning of September 20, 2023, at 02:00 AM, the Ministry of Interior confirms that the security situation is stable. Our security units continue to uphold public safety and ensure the protection of citizens and public and private properties. Interior Minister Kamal El Fekih visited the Radès electrical complex to investigate the causes of this disruption.”

Local reports suggest that a fire broke out at the Tunisian Company of Electricity and Gas station in Radès. The civil protection services rapidly responded to extinguish the fire, which led to the widespread power outage affecting most of the country’s governorates.
