The head of the Government of National Unity in Libya, Abdul Hamid Dbeibah, emphasized on Thursday that the top priority is to assist the victims in the city of Derna and other devastated regions. He highlighted the successful rescue of hundreds of individuals in the city.

Dbeibah made these remarks during a meeting convened to assess the dam conditions in conjunction with the Ministry of Water Resources. Notably, the collapsed dams played a significant role in the catastrophe that unfolded in Derna, resulting in the loss of thousands of lives.

During the meeting, Dbeibah addressed several critical issues, including the neglect of dams across the country due to the political and security conditions in recent years. He emphasized the urgent need for comprehensive solutions to address dam-related problems in various regions. Additionally, he highlighted the incomplete maintenance contracts for the dams and praised Libyan rescue teams for successfully saving 300 missing individuals, including 13 children.
