In Gabon, six days following the coup d’état that transpired on August 30, 2023, ousting President Ali Bongo Ondimba from power, General Brice Clotaire Oligui Nguema, who leads the Committee for Transition and the Restoration of Institutions (CTRI), was sworn in as the “Transitional President” of the country on September 4, 2023, in Libreville, by a “transition charter.” “I solemnly swear before God and the Gabonese people to faithfully preserve the republican regime, to respect and ensure compliance with the transition charter and the law,” declared the newly empowered leader.

The inauguration marks a significant turning point in Gabon’s political landscape, following the events of late August. General Oligui Nguema, as the head of the CTRI, has taken on the mantle of leadership during this transitional phase, signifying a pivotal moment in the nation’s history.

The oath-taking ceremony, held in Libreville, underscores the commitment to upholding the principles of democracy and governance in the country. With a resolute pledge to safeguard the republican system, General Oligui Nguema has set the tone for the transition period ahead.
