In full operation Marhaba 2023, the ferry “Morocco Star” of the company Africa Morocco Link (AML), co-owned by Attica Group and Bank of Africa, was the scene of a fire, putting the ship out of service.

The fire broke out in a generator on the ferry linking Tangier Med to Algeciras. The 152m long and 23m wide vessel, which can accommodate 935 passengers, has been towed to Gibraltar for repairs, local sources report.

The “Morocco Star” was built in Denmark and put into service in 1980. It has a garage capacity (in meters) of 755 Lane Meters.

The incident occurred amid the return of several thousand Moroccans residing abroad. The companies serving the same line have also been called upon to schedule additional trips to avoid congestion at the Moroccan port.
