In Burkina Faso, an attack in the central-eastern region, bordering Togo, left at least 22 dead, according to security sources. The attack targeted traders on the Cinkansé-Bittou axis, on the evening of Sunday, August 6th. Several vehicles were also burned with all their goods.

The traders were on their way back from the Cinkansé market, near the Togo border, when they were stopped by armed men at the Noaho location close to the Bittou commune. Sami Bérenger Pooda, a local official, expressed his sadness for the loss of lives due to terrorist attacks in a press release.

Pooda added that the bodies were transported to the morgue of the regional hospital center of Tenkodogo and invited the young people to mobilize to give worthy burials to the victims of what he describes as a “barbaric act”. During the attack, several injuries were also recorded. They were transported to Bittou and Cinkansé for treatment.

According to a security source, a group of armed men set fire to twelve vehicles, buses, and trucks loaded with goods. They also stole two barrels of gasoline.
