Several demonstrations are planned for Thursday to celebrate the 63rd anniversary of Niger’s independence, prompting France to ask to guarantee the security of foreign embassies, a week after the coup d’etat by a junta that intends to stay in power despite being under increasing pressure.

“While several calls to demonstrate are being issued for August 3rd, France recalls that the security of rights of way and diplomatic personnel are obligations under international law, and in particular the Vienna Conventions”, underlined the French Ministry of Affairs.
