General Abdoulrahman Cheiani announced on Friday, via state television in Niger, that he has become the head of a transitional council following a coup d’état on Wednesday.
In his first public appearance, General Cheiani stated that the military took power in Niger due to the deteriorating security situation, he added that military leaders are working towards achieving national unity.
Moreover, he emphasized that the military leaders are now focused on achieving unity within the nation.
