In response to Saturday’s fire incident at Grootvlei power station, Electricity Minister Kgosientsho Ramokgopa is set to visit the site and assess the extent of the damage caused. Expressing concerns over the recurring fires at Eskom power stations, the minister highlighted the need for a firsthand understanding of the situation to provide accurate timelines for restoring the affected unit.

During his weekly update on the energy action plan’s implementation, Minister Ramokgopa revealed that he had already been in contact with Eskom’s Executive responsible for generation, Bheki Nxumalo, to gather information about the incident. However, he stressed the importance of conducting a visual observation at Grootvlei to complement technical reports and ensure accuracy in his future communications with the public.

The minister’s visit to Grootvlei power station is aimed at obtaining a comprehensive understanding of the damage and expediting the recovery process. With regular fires becoming a concern, the assessment seeks to facilitate prompt and effective measures to address any vulnerabilities and enhance the safety and reliability of the country’s power infrastructure.
