ANC Secretary-General Clarifies His Remarks on Minister Gordhan’s Performance

The African National Congress (ANC) Secretary-General, Fikile Mbalula, sought to clarify his recent remarks about Minister Pravin Gordhan, emphasizing that it was a clarion call for faster policy interventions and not a threat of removal. Mbalula made the statement during the ANC Women’s League’s national elective conference where he addressed non-performing ministers and premiers.

In his address, Mbalula urged Minister Gordhan to expedite policy interventions in addressing the country’s rail and freight logistics challenges at Transnet. He emphasized the urgency of resolving issues that impact the livelihood of South Africans, stressing that the party must act swiftly.

Following his speech, Mbalula issued a statement to clarify his stance, making it clear that he was not calling for Gordhan’s removal. Instead, he praised Gauteng’s Premier Panyaza Lesufi as an exemplary ANC deployee, highlighting his actions in government as a positive example for others to follow.
