The images of tanks in the streets of the occupied Melilla in recent days had been picked up by several media. Their deployment in the enclave is part of an operation carried out in front of the Moroccan border.

The exercise was carried out by the Regulars Group of Melilla, of the Army, reports the Iberian media Voz Populi. These “permanent” missions aim to “surveil the border” and exert a “deterrent” effect in the face of possible “undesirable interference”.

“The presence of Spanish troops near the border of Sebta (Ceuta) and Melilla is however common,” military sources told the Spanish media.

In 2021, Madrid had decided to improve the training capacities of the Spanish army units based in Sebta (Ceuta) and Melilla.

In addition to the reinforcement of manpower and the construction of new buildings, the Spanish Armada has also been called upon. As of this summer, it will deploy a vessel over 31 meters long near the waters of Melilla.
