Following the murder of Congolese opposition figure Chérubin Okende Senga in Kinshasa, the chief suspect is now in the hands of the judiciary, announced the Attorney General at the Court of Cassation on Thursday, July 13th. The suspect was apprehended on Thursday at the location where the vehicle containing the lifeless body of the deputy was discovered. Authorities continue to pursue the ongoing judicial investigation.

The suspect reportedly found the vehicle with the lifeless body of Chérubin Okende on Thursday around 6:00 am. Due to his statements, it became challenging to determine the precise location using the vehicle’s tracking system. The suspect was apprehended by law enforcement officers at the scene of the body’s discovery, according to the prosecutor.

The magistrate cautioned against the manipulation of social media and assured that the facts would be revealed through the involvement of police scientists and auxiliary communication services.

According to judicial sources corroborated by multiple testimonies, when Chérubin Okende’s body was discovered on Thursday morning, the engine of his Jeep was running in front of a garage. The air conditioning was still on, the seatbelt was fastened, and his white shirt was stained with blood.

The vehicle had allegedly entered the auto garage around 3:00 am and was not released by the police until 10:00 am.

Upon the arrival of the police, a 9 mm firearm was found next to the body with bullet impacts. This weapon is believed to belong to the police officer who accompanied and protected the spokesperson of Ensemble pour la République on Wednesday.
