In Ghana, the Sentuo group’s Telma oil refinery is due to come on stream at the end of August. Worth $1.98 billion, it is expected to produce 5 million tons of petroleum products including liquefied petroleum gas, fuel, gasoline, and diesel among others.

It integrates the government program “One district, one factory”. Its owners are discussing the terms of acquiring 500,000 barrels of crude oil from the country’s oil fields for its first production.

By 2025, the infrastructure is expected to refine 4.26 million tonnes of petroleum products while in 2022 local demand was estimated at 4.22 million tonnes. Ghana would therefore be freed from importing these products with the key to saving foreign exchange estimated at 1.5 billion dollars per year.

The Telma refinery will also produce 200,000 tonnes of base oil for lubricants and solvent naphtha, and 400,000 tonnes of by-products such as polypropylene, ammonium sulfate, sulfuric acid, and sulfur.
