The representatives of the Sudanese Army and Rapid Support Forces have come together to announce a 72-hour ceasefire across the nation. The ceasefire agreement was declared by Saudi Arabia and the United States on Saturday, and it is set to commence at 6:00 AM local time in Khartoum on Sunday.

This temporary cessation of hostilities aims to alleviate the ongoing violence and create an environment conducive to humanitarian efforts.

According to a joint statement issued by Saudi and US officials, both parties have agreed to abide by several key provisions during the ceasefire period. These include refraining from any movements, attacks, or use of warplanes, drones, and artillery.

The parties have also committed to avoiding the reinforcement of positions or resupplying forces, as well as abstaining from attempting to gain military advantages during the ceasefire. This comprehensive agreement underscores the importance of de-escalation and prioritizes the well-being of Sudanese civilians.

Furthermore, the joint statement emphasizes the significance of unrestricted movement and the unimpeded delivery of humanitarian aid throughout Sudan. This provision is crucial in addressing the pressing needs of the Sudanese people, especially in light of the upcoming Humanitarian Donors Conference scheduled for June 19.

The mediators, Saudi Arabia and the United States, have called upon all parties involved to consider the immense suffering endured by the Sudanese population and to fully comply with the ceasefire, ensuring a halt to all acts of violence.

However, the statement also serves as a warning, stating that if either party fails to adhere to the 72-hour ceasefire, the mediators will be compelled to reconsider the timing of the Jeddah talks. This serves as a reminder to the conflicting factions of the urgency and importance of upholding their commitment to peace and stability.
