Cooperation: 84.9 Million Euros from the IDA to Improve the Statistical System in Niger

At a meeting of the Council of Ministers on Thursday, the government adopted a bill authorizing the ratification of an 84.9 million euro credit agreement with the International Development Association (IDA) for Niger.

This agreement was signed on 20th May 2023 in Niamey to finance the Project for the Harmonisation and Improvement of Statistics in West and Central Africa (PHASAOC).

The final statement from the Council of Ministers indicated that “the overall objective of the credit agreement covered by this bill is to help participating countries and the regional bodies concerned to set up effective and sustainable statistical systems”.

This project, financed by the Agreement, has specific objectives such as improving the statistical performance of countries, ensuring the regional harmonization of statistical data, improving access to and use of data, and strengthening the modernization of the statistical system in participating countries”, the same source emphasized.

Furthermore, the press release continues, “This project will be implemented through four components, including the harmonization and production of basic statistics using international data quality standards.
