In Ivory Coast, President Alassane Ouattara appointed three new constitutional advisers by decree on June 6th, 2023.

It is first of all magistrate Aimée Zebeyoux, former Secretary of State for Human Rights in the previous RHDP government.

The other newcomers are the famous public prosecutor, Richard Adou and Sébastien Yédoh Lath, teacher-researcher in public law. The two men are close to jurist Ouraga Obou, a former companion of Laurent Gbagbo. It was to Ouraga Obou that Alassane Ouattara entrusted, in 2016, the presidency of the committee of experts responsible for drafting the new Constitution.

During an election period, the Constitutional Council has three main responsibilities: to ratify potential constitutional reforms, to validate the candidates, and finally to validate the ballot results. The three newly appointed advisers will officially take office in July 2023. As well Chantal Camara, the current president of the Court of Cassation, is close to Alassane Ouattara, who will head the Constitutional Council. She was appointed to this position on May 9th.

All are appointed for six years, that is to say, a period which will cover the local elections in September, but also the presidential election in 2025.
