On June 5th, 2023, Rwandan President Juvenal Marizamunda was the new Minister of Defense and made a total of half a dozen changes within the army. The Rwandan Presidency also appointed a new Chief of the Defense Staff.

Jean Bosco Kazura is no longer Chief of the Defense Staff. He is replaced in this post by Mubarakh Muganga. This lieutenant-general is a pure product of the Rwandan army, which he has officiated for more than 30 years. Aged 56, he has steadily climbed the ranks over the years, commanding the 4th then the 3rd division of the army, before taking charge between 2016 and 2021, the 1st division as well as the council of administration of the workshop of the armed forces. Throughout his career, he has, according to the Rwandan press, received many distinctions such as the medal of national liberation or that of the campaign against genocide. It should also be noted that he was partly trained in China, Egypt, and Kenya.

As a result, Major General Vincent Nyakarundi succeeds the latter as Chief of Staff of the Army, while Alex Kagame becomes Commander of the Joint Task Force in Mozambique.

The Rwandan president has made a total of half a dozen changes within the army. Changes that occur in the context of persistent tensions with the DRC.
