South African President Cyril Ramaphosa told a meeting in Boksburg that South Africa’s ruling African National Congress (ANC) will campaign for a “straightforward” victory and not for coalitions in next year’s general elections.

The meeting focused on the ANC’s national electoral strategy for these important elections.

Ramaphosa said that if the party runs an effective election campaign to convince people of its strategic and economic choices, victory would be certain.

Furthermore, several polls have shown that the ANC is likely to fall below 50% support in the general election for the first time.

As a result, Cyril Ramaphosa, president of the country and of the ANC party, has identified the need for the party to unite behind a clear and unambiguous campaign message.

For its part, the Inclusive Society Institute, in a survey conducted in cooperation with Ipsos, believes that a national coalition of the opposition is highly unlikely and no coalition can be formed without the Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF-opposition) party.

Thus, the same survey showed that with a high turnout, the ANC could achieve about 50% of the vote.
