On April 20th, 2023, men in military uniforms surrounded the village of Karma in northern Burkina Faso. On April 27th, the transitional authorities of Burkina Faso reacted by condemning “despicable and barbaric acts”. The Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS), of which Burkina is a member, denounces for its part “cowardly and barbaric attacks”.

In response to the Karma attack, the Burkinabe transitional government has condemned “despicable and barbaric acts”. The speaker indicates that he will do everything possible to bring about the manifestation of the truth. The authorities responded via a press release. Jean-Emmanuel Ouedraogoh, a government spokesman, stated that the government is concerned about reports of dozens of people being killed in unsolved circumstances in the village of Karma.

Armed men dressed in Burkinabè armed forces outfits allegedly targeted the civilian population of the locality, massacring and looting the property of peaceful inhabitants of the village of Karma, according to this information.

The authorities, which strongly condemn these acts, indicate that they are following “very closely the progress of the investigation opened by the Ouahigouya prosecutor” and conclude by specifying: “The government reassures national and international opinion that it will do everything which falls within its prerogatives for the total manifestation of the truth in this drama”.
