The head of the Russian paramilitary group Wagner, Yevgeny Prigozhin, has denied on his Telegram account having lost mercenaries from his group in the attack on Sevaré on 22nd April, as claimed by the al-Qaeda-linked Jnim Islamic and Muslim Support Group.

The Russian military official claimed on his Telegram account that “In Mali, the Islamic State and Al Qaeda have joined forces to fight against Wagner.”

This statement confirms the activity of the Wagner group in Mali, while for almost a year and a half the Malian transitional authorities have only acknowledged the presence.

According to the official Malian balance sheet, the terrorist attack on the military camp and airport in Sévaré left 13 people dead, including three soldiers, and around 60 wounded, an attack that was claimed by Jnim.

The head of Wagner, when asked about the attack, said that no one was injured in Savaré and that the losses were high on the side of the terrorists.
