Opening of The First Edition of the International Festival “Rabat’Doc Africa”

The first edition of the international festival “Rabat’Doc Africa” started yesterday evening at the Mohammed V Theatre in Rabat, under the theme “African documentary film, a lever for creativity and development”, as part of the festivities “Rabat, African Capital of Culture 2022”.

This festival held under the high patronage of His Majesty King Mohammed VI was initiated by the Sijilmassa Centre for Audiovisual Studies and Research and the Presidency of Mohammed V University.

The opening ceremony of the festival was attended by the Minister of Youth, Culture, and Communication, Mohamed Mehdi Bensaid, the perpetual secretary of the Academy of the Kingdom of Morocco, Abdeljalil Lahjomri, as honorary president of the festival, and other personalities from the academic, artistic and cultural world representing Morocco and several African countries.

The opening ceremony also included the presentation of the eight documentaries competing for the festival’s three prizes: the “Grand Prize”, sponsored by “Al-Jazeera Documentary”, the “Jury Prize” and the “University Prize for Creativity”.

In a speech on the occasion, Mehdi Bensaid said that the festival consolidates the royal vision aiming at strengthening cooperation and exchanges between African countries as a priority of the Kingdom of Morocco.
