On the occasion of the visit of Rwandan President Paul Kagame to Guinea, the head of the junta in Guinea, Colonel President Mamadi Doumbouya expressed in a statement from the presidency the willingness of Guinea to be inspired by the model of Rwanda.

Paul Kagame’s visit is the first visit of a foreign head of state to Guinea since the military took power in 2021.

In this statement, Colonel Mamadi Doumbouya said that Rwanda has been able to recover and rebuild itself and assert itself as an African reference, after the 1994 genocide until the reunification of the country.

Colonel Mamadi Doumbouya committed himself to carry out reforms and then handing them over to elected civilians at the end of 2024, following international pressure.

The real challenge for Colonel Mamadi Doumbouya is to rebuild Guinea while putting it on the road to national reconciliation.

Paul Kagame arrived in Conakry on Monday for the third leg of his West Africa tour, after Benin and Guinea Bissau.

He expressed his willingness to work with Guinea in the framework of open cooperation and also said he “wishes to welcome very soon” Mamadi Doumbouya to Rwanda.
