The Nigerian aviation unions have announced a two-day strike as of Monday. On the one hand, the unions are demanding a pay rise for staff. On the other hand, they are opposing the demolition project.

The project is aimed at demolishing the headquarters of the aviation agencies in Lagos, to build an aerotropolis.

The Minister of Aviation, Senator Hadi Sirika, said there is no possibility of reversing the demolition project.

The unions argued that there is no office space in Abuja for the thousands of employees of the aviation agencies involved in the project.

Apart from the demolition project, the strikers are protesting against the refusal of the aviation agencies to pay the employees’ salaries and the failure to meet their welfare demands.

The strike has not been announced by the Nigerian Airspace Management Agency (NAMA) to advise airlines of possible flight disruption.
