The National Press Authority (NPA), which regulates the media in Ivory Coast, stated on Wednesday announcing the suspension of the Ivorian opposition daily, Le Temps.

The NPA accuses the daily, which is close to former president Laurent Gbagbo, of prejudicing the judiciary.

Six issues of the day have been suspended and its editor has been banned from writing for three months.

The newspaper was also reproached for publishing a photo of an investigating judge, which violates her right to the image, according to the NPA.

The NPA also criticized an article written by the same journalist, Yacouba Gbane, accusing “the judges” of having “become the secular arms of the regime” of President Alassane Ouattara.

The article referred to the sentencing on 9 March to two years in prison of 26 activists of the African People’s Party – Côte d’Ivoire (PPA-CI).

The secretary general of the PPA-CI, Damana Pickass, was summoned by the magistrate twice in this case.

For the NPA, these articles undermine the honor and consideration of the judiciary.
