The Rwandan Patriotic Front held its 35th international congress this weekend and re-elected Paul Kagame as head of the ruling party.

Paul Kagame was re-elected with a majority of 99.8%. His opponent was the Rwandan ambassador to Indonesia Abdul Karim Harerimana.

RPF member Olivier Mugabonake expressed satisfaction with the election results, especially the re-election of Paul Kagame.

The post of vice-president of the party was attributed for the first time in history to a woman, who is Consolée Uwimana.

The party is campaigning for the candidacy of the current head of state, who has been in power for 23 years, in the presidential elections scheduled for August 2024.
