On the occasion of the sacred month of Ramadan, the International Committee of the Red Cross has donated foodstuffs to 4000 prisoners in Somalia.

These donations concern 12 places of detention in the country.

An ICRC protection officer told the media that this solidarity operation allows prisoners to participate in the joy of Ramadan.

The nutritional situation in Somalia is worrying because of the drought, which has caused food prices to rise.

In fact, nearly 100,000 people in Somalia have reached the maximum level of food insecurity, according to the World Health Organisation.

The drought in Somalia has led to the death of millions of livestock, the destruction of crops and has caused millions of people to flee their areas.
