Port St Johns, a coastal town in the Eastern Cape, has been devastated by floods that occurred on Thursday, and community members are now appealing for help.

Reports indicate that the floods have caused significant damage, with roads and critical infrastructure such as water and sanitation treatment plans being washed away by heavy rains and mudslides. As a result, at least three people have been reported missing.

Some community members have reported losing everything as floodwaters entered their homes. Although the heavy rains have subsided, the aftermath of the flood remains.

Community members in Port St Johns are now left to pick up the pieces, with roads and infrastructure destroyed, and belongings covered in mud. Some are attempting to salvage what they can, moving mattresses and furniture outside to dry after being drenched in water, while others are left with home appliances that have been completely destroyed.
